The irritability, hot temper, and wiry pulse indicate a Liver disorder. Pathological change The patient is frequently irritable and has a hot temper, thus there is a continual imbalance in the yin and yang aspects of the Liver. There are two possible causes for this imbalance: the preponderance of yang may be congenital, or it may be linked to a recurrent form of emotional pathogenic factor. This develops during childhood and adolescence and leaves the person with a volatile tendency to develop heat from stagnation.

Reversal of Stomach qi -ยป CAUSE of DISEASE Disruption of the directional flow of qi The retained phlegm in the middle burner blocks the ascension of clear yang and the turbid qi cannot descend from the head. This results in dizziness. The ear, which receives nourishment from the clear yang, is also affected.

The Spleen's failure to nourish and support the other Organs eventually impairs their ability to hold in place, and it is then that an Organ can prolapse. In Chinese medicine this is called 'sinking of the Spleen qi'. See Fig. 7. Cause of disease Phlegm The dizziness accompanied by nausea and poor appetite confirms the presence of phlegm, which upsets the directional flow of qi. Site of disease Head, Stomach, and Spleen The dizziness and tinnitus suggest involvement of the head. The nausea, vomiting, and belching indicate a Stomach disorder.
